Yakubu Busari

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Plateau, Mr Andrew Bala has said 29 persons have been reported killed between January and June in 106 motor crashes across the State.

The Public Education Officer of the command, Mr Bala, confirmed this in Jos, adding that no fewer than 188 persons were severely injured.

Bala attributed the rate of road carnage in the state to reckless driving, over speeding, overloading by commercial drivers and wrongful overtaking.

He, however, explained that there was over 50 per cent reduction in the rate of accidents in the state, compare to same period under review in 2014.

“Within the last six months, speed violation accounted about 65 percent of the causative factors of road accidents in plateau.

”Between January and June 2015, a total of 29 persons were killed in 106 road traffic accidents, leaving over 188 persons with severe injuries.

”Compare to 2014, there is drastic reduction in the rate of crashes this year.

”Within the same period in 2014, we recorded 39 deaths, with 384 persons injured in 125 crashes which indicates over 50 per cent reduction,” he said

The image maker attributed the gross reduction in rate of road carnage in the state to the resilient of the officers and men of the corps, as they were on toes and ensured massive sensitization was carried out.

Bala called on motorists to desist from overloading, making call while driving, most especially over speeding.

He also charged them to abstain from dangerous and wrongful overtaking, and any other negative act that could cause accident.
