29 Cows Drowned, Houses And Roads Washed By Flood In Jos East LGA

About 29 Cows were drowned, while many Houses and Farmlands were washed away, including bridges linking the headquarters of Jos East Local Government Council of Plateau State.

The heavy downpour which lasted for several hours, wreaked havoc as it disconnected the council secretariat forcing residents to go through Toro LGA in Bauchi state.

The Member representing Jos East constituency in the state House of Assembly, Hon Barr. Joshua Madaki solicited the assistance of Plateau state Government and spirited individuals to rescue the affected communities with relief materials and reconstruct those damaged bridges to make its motorable.

Madaki made this known during an interview with our correspondent at the state Assembly complex on Tuesday in Jos

He said the main roads connecting fobur, federe Angwari at keven were badly washed by the flood.

Madaki lamented that the entire local government has been excommunicated due to the heavy flood disaster.

He expressed worried that users of the road has to pass to Toro local Government Area in Bauchi state before reaching Jos east.

The lawmaker said, with the total collapse of the roads, no heavy trucks can pass through the area and another issue is that the Maza community road is also disconnected.

Hon Madaki said to achieve food security government need to do more in the area of agriculture where the yam festival of this year will be affected by floods.

He explained further that the primary duty of a legislator is to perform their duties constitutionally and oversight functions effectively to enlighten the constituents on legislative business.

He noted that a legislator has the constitutional power to embark on oversight function in different ministries for efficient check and balances.

He maintained that within one year a lot of bills have been passed into law which is the road map of good representation.

“We are given constituency allowance to carry out some functions, and that is the reason why people want to see physical developments standing which was also promised during our electioneering campaign as a mandate of  a representative.

He noted that 15 boreholes, 2 classrooms with other projects has been completed and commissioned while some are still ongoing in targeted communities.

The legislator lauded the idea of the Governor Simon Bako  Lalong on the extension of local government committee chairmen which reduces pressure on the members.

He said as government they has to plan for election properly in good conduct  of governance.

He urged people to stop disobeying government and its procedures because they cannot do without them.

He stressed that the extension of tenure of the local government chairmen is their legislative duty.

According to him it is their responsibility to renew all tenure of the chairmen because there can never be vacuum in governance.
