284 Secondary Schools Destroyed By Windstorm In Nasarawa State-Education Commissioner

Nasarawa State Commissioner of Education, Honorable John Mamman, has revealed that a total of 284 secondary schools was destroyed by the Windstorm in the State.

He gave the hint during the official commissioning of a standard mosque built by him  and donated to Muslim Ummah at his country home of Dari community of Kokona Local Government.

The Commissioner affirmed that the State Government is on top of the situation as necessary steps are in place to addressing the gory conditions of public schools in the State.

According to him,”he recalled that the State Government carried out a baseline survey in under the headship of Professor Kida to access the condition of schools to do the needful”.

Honorable John Mamman, while commenting on the proliferation of private schools in Nasarawa State, said the State lacks an enabling law to take stringent measures, stating that a new law is underway at the State Assembly.

“The enabling law has passed first and second reading at the State Assembly, he, however, expressed concern over the way and manner private schools are organizing graduation, which they named signing out with graduands walking naked”.

“Is not acceptable to our generation and our time as stakeholders in the State to allow this to continue”.

Honorable John Mamman also decried the way and manner private schools are hiking students’ school fees without considering the plight of parents and guardians.

“What bothered me most is the collection of money instead of the presentation of handicraft by pupils.”..
