The recent mass defection of supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress, the APC, to the opposition political party, the Social Democratic Party, can be attributed to the recent mass decamping of thousands of people from the APC.

The mass exodus of former APC supporters, mostly from the camp of the former Inspector General of Police (retired), Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, after the allegation he raised about the manipulation of the Governorship primaries.

The burning of brooms occurs in the Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State and has extended to the Akwanga and Doma Local Government Areas of the State.

The Director of Operations of Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, in Doma Local Government Area, during a rally he organized in Sabon Gari electoral ward of Doma Local Government, is a clear picture of the mass exodus of supporters of APC to an opposition party, the SDP. A lot of brooms, which are the symbol of APC, were burned to ashes at the political event.

The second occasion was a political rally organized by four electoral wards of Galadima, Madauci, Sarkin Dawaki, and Madaki wards respectively.

The Director of Operations for the former IGP, Adamu Alhassan, stated that over 5,000 APC supporters jumped ship to the SDP. The occasion was at its climax, with the burning of brooms being the symbol of the APC.

The mass movement of supporters of the APC is a clear indication that the Governorship candidate of the APC, Distinguished Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, will taste the bitter pills of opposition, since the State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, who declared him as his successor, is no longer at ease with him.

The immediate past Governor of the State and Senator, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, is the political godfather of the former IGP, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu. The unfolding explained that something went wrong between the two former Governors of the State.

Unconfirmed sources say the immediate past Governor queried Engineer Abdullahi Sule for not discussing with critical stakeholders of Nasarawa State on who to support for the Governorship come 2027. It would be recalled that the first executive Governor of the State, Dr. Abdullahi Adamu, did not declare his successor until an hour before the People’s Democratic Party Primaries held at the convocation square of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi.

Despite the agitation that led to the postponement of the Governorship primaries, the then Governor remained unchanged in his decision to hand over to Dr. Aliyu AKwe Doma, the Madaucin Doma, the Madaucin Doma spend only four years term instead of 8 years.

The third democratically elected Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, during his time, handpicked the present Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, without any agitation from anybody. The question people continue to ask is why now? Why Wadada is not the only non-Indigene contesting for the Governor of Nassarawa State is just history repeating itself.

Time shall tell.
