The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State, Omar Suleiman, has pledged to tackle insecurity and restore peace across the state, promising to work closely with security agencies to protect lives, property and farming communities if elected in 2027.

Speaking at a news conference in Yola, Suleiman, a former Nigerian ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo, said security would be the cornerstone of his administration, stressing that no meaningful development could take place without a safe and secure environment.

He promised to strengthen collaboration with federal security agencies and deploy every legitimate operational measure necessary to ensure residents could live and work without fear.

“We will commit whatever it takes operationally to ensure citizens can sleep peacefully and safely in their homes. We will restore public safety and create an enabling environment for development and economic activities across the state,” he said.

The ADC flag bearer noted that improved security would also revive agriculture, describing Adamawa as an agrarian state with enormous potential for food production and economic growth.

He said his administration would partner agricultural experts to train farmers in modern farming techniques, ensure the timely distribution of subsidised fertilisers and prioritise rural road construction to facilitate the movement of farm produce to markets.

Suleiman also pledged to invest in sports development as a strategy to create employment opportunities for young people, empower communities and address social vices such as drug abuse.

On the leadership of the ADC, Suleiman dismissed claims that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had failed to recognise the party’s national leadership, insisting that the commission recognised the leadership headed by Senator David Mark.

He reaffirmed the party’s unity and readiness for the 2027 governorship election, urging Adamawa residents to support the ADC’s vision of inclusive governance, sustainable development and lasting peace.
