2020 WAEC Examination:49,700 Students Registered For WAEC In Nasarawa State

The Nasarawa State Commissioner of Education, Hon. Fati Sabo has disclosed that a total of 49,700 students would sit for the West Africa Examination Council scheduled for August 17 nationwide

 

Fati Sabo gave the disclosure during an exclusive interview with selected Journalists in her office.

 

The Commissioner explained that out of the 49,700 exit class students 30,045 are from public schools.

 

She however hinted that a total of 19,651 students are from private secondary schools cut across the length and breadth of the State.

 

Hon. Fati Sabo further explained that the State has a total of 239 secondary schools while 259 private schools.

 

“Government has directed that all heads of schools with WAEC centers must abide by the Federal Government and the Nigeria Centre for Diseases Control protocol of social distancing.

 

Other safety measures according to the Commissioner include the use of face mask, use of hand sanitizers, soap and water, and thermometer for the testing of COVID-19 pandemic respectively.

 

She says that provisions have been made for the establishment of holding centers in case of an eventuality as WAEC commences examination on August 17th, 2020 nationwide.

 

Quate my right, “we are not re+opening schools but rather for the resumption of exit class students to write their final year examination”.

 

With the rising wave of insecurity ranging from kidnapping, banditry in the country, The Hon. Commissioner explained that the State Government has collaborated with vigilantes to safeguard schools during the West Africa Examination Council.

 

“Our arrangements also include the fumigation of the entire 498 secondary schools in Nasarawa State”.

 

Fati Sabo further explained that effort has been put in place to decongest all WAEC centers in the State.

 

“We have make provision for the number students which she said 20 students per class, which would be applicable to hostels”.

 

She said that a monitoring team has been constituted comprises of Directors and Chief Evaluation Officers whose responsibility includes the inspection of schools overgrown with tall grasses and shrubs.

 

The Commissioner asserted that the State Ministry of Education in collaboration with the State Ministry of Health to train the trainers about COVID-19 pandemic in case of any suspected cases.
