2017 Workers Day: Nasarawa Organized Labour To Observe Workers Day In Mournful Mood Over Nonpayment Of Salary/Killings Of 2 Members by Police

This year’s workers day in Nasarawa state will be observed in a low key, the chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Abdullahi Adeka stated this while briefing Journalists at the Abdullahi Adamu Labour House.

Adeka said workers would observe first May which was celebrated by workers to mourn the demise of members that lost their lives while protesting over nonpayment of salaries.

“Workers in Nasarawa on Monday which is our day are to converge at the state Secretariat of the organized Labour in black garments”.

“All workers are to assemble at labour House where clerics would pray and press statement would be issue to Journalists because May Day is not worth celebrating in Nasarawa state”.

Workers in Nasarawa state can’t afford to pay the school fees of their wards due to lack of prompt payment of salary by the state government, Apart from the two workers that died others has also passed away due to anguish and agony.

The state commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism, Hon.Yakubu Abdulhamid Kwarra when contacted over the delay in the payment of four months salaries, debunked that saying only March salary was owned workers in the state.

“Any moment our federal allocation was accrued to the state I can assure you payment of salary will commence.

“The delay in payment of salary was a national issue not only in Nasarawa state,the commissioner when asked about the recent trip of governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura and top government functionaries to China, the commissioner declined comment.

“I’m not part of those that traveled to China, for that I want to get details of the voyage and I will get back to the press, said Yakubu Kwarra.
