2015 Elections: Two Major Religions Sign Peace Peace Pact In Gombe By Kalshingi H Jedidah
In preparation to the forth coming elections in February 2015, the two major religions in Nigeria, have signed pact of peace in agreement for violent free elections an action which was said to be an effort to avert any possibility of crisis outbreak as it did in the past elections in 2011.
This took place in Gombe today at a forum organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC for stakeholders in the state. According to the INEC Residential Electoral Commissioner, Barr Kassim Gaidam the forum was organised to equip electorates with all information and guidelines on the electoral process, as well as interact with stakeholders on the level of preparedness for the fast approaching elections with a view to ensure success, peaceful, and acceptable elections.
He disclosed that the commission has already put every necessary equipment in place in preparation to the conduct of the elections. He added that, the commission had already distributed about 967,000 Permanent Voter’s Cards PVCs in the state, out of the total figure of 1,141000,200 PVCs.
According to him, there are over 50,000 PVCs that have not been claimed with about 19,000 multiple registrations. Adding that the commission was committed to ensure successful elections by ensuring justice and fairness and strict adherence to the electoral acts and guideline of the commission.
The INEC REC however, called on the people in the state to come out en mass to vote candidates of their choices, and ensure that all hands are put in deck to ensure success of the elections.
While delivering his remarks, the Executive governor of Gombe State Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo commended INEC’s effort on ensuring successful elections in the state. He also called on the people particularly politicians to be law abiding and adhere Gombe the provisions of the electoral acts in other to ensure success of the elections.
The governor also urged the people to be security cautious particularly during elections as the region is currently facing security challenges.
However, the state Commissioner of Police CP Abdullahi Kudu Nma has cautioned the people Gombe desist from all forms of violence. According to him, the police command would not tolerate any form of violence during and after elections.
