2015 Elections: INEC Satisfied With Level Of Preparedness In Gombe Kalshingi H Jedidah
The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC in Gombe said it was satisfied with the level of preparedness for the 2015 general elections in the state. This was stated in a press release issued by the INEC office in Gombe and made available to the media yesterday.
According to the release, the new INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barr Kassim Gana Gaidam who embarked on familiarisation tour to the 11 local governments of the state, observed that all facilities needed by the commission to conduct elections have been put in place in all the local governments of the state.
Part of the release reads, ” The Resident Electoral Commissioner noted with satisfaction the readiness of all offices to conduct the 2015 general elections and in particular their readiness to distribute unclaimed Permanent Voter’s Cards across all registration areas and wards of the state.”
According to the release, the Resident Commissioner had embarked on the tour with a view to assess the state of preparedness to the fast approaching general elections in the state, adding that, during the tour, the Commissioner has been able to hold meetings with all Electoral Officers, members of Local Inter-Agency Advisory Committees on Voter Education and Publicity, Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, traditional rulers and other stakeholders on the way forward toward achieving success of the elections.
Adding that, the commission would be distributing about 172,288 unclaimed Permanent Voters Cards an exercise which it said should run before the second week of February 2015.
Part of the release also expressed that, the INEC Commissioner has enjoined all electoral officers and other stakeholders to commit themselves to their duties with strict adherence to the ethical principles of the commission and the law of the land, even as he urged all security operatives in the state to support the commission by ensuring peaceful conduct of the elections.
Saying traditional rulers have been called upon to mobilise and encourage the people particularly women to come out massively and participate in the elections, and eschew from all forms of violence.
