2 Councillorship Candidates Versus Nasarawa APC, Local Government Reconciliation Committee: Court Fixes August 16 For Hearing

The High Court 5, sitting in Lafia has granted an application for accelerated hearing of a suit filed against the Nasarawa State ruling All Progressives Congress for twisting an outcome of Councillorship primary election held in Galadima and Sarkin Dawaki wards of Doma Local Government Council.

 

The vacation Judge, Justice A.A. Ozegya fixed August 16, 2021, for hearing, The Judge averred that he was satisfied with the exhibit attached and presented  cum an extensive argument by the plaintiff counsel.

 

The plaintiff counsel, Barrister Okechukwu Ochegowa shortly after the adjournment averred that the matter at stake is an urgent pre-election matter that needed an emergency considering the huge amount of monies expended by the complainants.

 

Also, Barrister  Ochegowa said the winner of the seat of  Councillor in Sarkin Dawaki electoral ward resigned his appointment as a staff of Doma Local Government Council.

 

The plaintiff counsel, Ochegowa said they needed an accelerated hearing due to the time frame for the conduct of the Local Government Council election slated for October, 6,2021.

 

He maintained that he was in court to ensure that the names of the winners of the two Councillorship candidates that participated and won the majority and their names did not appear at the office of the State Independent Electoral Commission.

 

“We are in court today to seek the relief of the court to give us the go-ahead to serve the national headquarter of the ruling All Progressives Congress or the State Secretariat of the ruling All Progressives Congress”.

 

He further explained that my intention is not to pre- empty the verdict of the Court because is required that the summon is served to the national headquarter of APC.

 

The suit is between Mohammed Mustapha Versus Salihu Ashafa of Sarkin Dawaki electoral ward of Doma Local Government Council.

 

In the contest, Hon Mohammed Mustapha polled 528 and was returned elected while Hon. Salihu Ashafa scores 196 votes, followed by Tijjani Ojudu who polled 112 votes and Osabo Ibrahim came last with 68 votes.

 

Salihu Ashafa who polled 196 votes and emerged second was also issued another certificate.

 

While in Galadima ward  Hon.Mohammed Ali Oboshi in the primary election polled the highest vote of 432 votes, while his opponent Jonah D.Ogah emerged second with  225 votes and was endorsed and issued with another certificate.

 

Hon. Francis Adeka polled 104 votes as the second contestant in the race, Hon Mohammed Ali Oboshi was declared winner, and a certificate was issued to him later on twisted by declaring Hon. Jonah D.Ogah polled 225 winners of the primary election.
