17 Accused Persons Arraigned For Kidnapping, Illegal Firearms Armed Robbery, Charms In Plateau
17 suspects have been arraigned on five-count charges of kidnapping, armed robbery, culpable homicide, unlawful possession of firearms, and adoption in Plateau.
The following persons were arraigned before Justice Christy Dabup as Jeji Sale ,Bawa Idi, Ahmadu Yunusa,Izikuwe Ishaya,Alhassan Ibrahim ,Abdullahi Ya’a,Yunusa Sale , Ibrahim Usman ,Umar Mato, Idi Audi ,Kabiru Adamu ,Yakubu Buba , Mohammed Isiaka ,Rabiu Sale ,Yunusa Abubakar, and Mohammed Bello respectively in the alleged criminal conspiracy, attempted murder of one Sambo Iliya Jingre under pengana chiefdom of Bassa LGA of Plateau state.
The prosecution counsel, Barr. J.B.Longden a Director of the prosecution ministry of Justice Plateau State urged the clerk to read the five-count charge to all the accused persons and be explaining to each of them in languages they understand clearly.
That all you the accused persons sometimes on the 15-03-2021 and 16-03-2021 in Bassa LGA you conspired and committed an attempt of kidnapping, illegal possession of firearms, charms, dangerous weapon, swords, sticks in Deshin village attempted to attack one Sambo Illiya resident and were overpowered by the local security outfit called vigilante in the area punishment by section 57,59 of the plateau state administration of criminal law 2016.
That all of you the accused persons sometimes in March 15&16 2021 illegal assembled yourselves as members of Yan-Bula society from Saminaka Kaduna state came into Plateau state kidnapping, terrorizing, raping, adopting people.
That you all jointly assembled yourselves by armed with illegal weapons were arrested by the vigilante group of Nigeria but with the swift intervention of the local security and you all were overpowered under section 27 of 2006 administration of criminal law of plateau state.
That you all the accused persons sometimes in this found in possession of unlawful firearms, locally fabricated weapons, in preparation to wreak havoc with unregistered live ammunition, AK47 punishable by section 9 & 27 of criminal justice law
That you constitute yourselves as Yanbula head to jingre punishable under section 57 criminal law, but all the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecution counsel after reading the charge to the accused persons he urges them to be remanded in the correctional center to enable him assembled all witnesses in court.
However the counsel to accused persons, Barr N.A Idoko said some of the defendants have pending bail applications before the court filed.
The prosecution counsel confirmed the bail application and they have to reply to them on point of law.
However, justice Arum Ashom said best on the present practice their bail application can be taken together on oral ground depend on the charge before them.
Idoko application dated 7th July 2021 and filed on 8th July 2021 were all taken and justice Ashom adjourned to 21st October 2021 for accelerated hearing and ruling on their applications.
