The Academic staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has challenge governor Adams Oshiomole of Edo state for rendering its members homeless as it carried out illegal demolition exercise.
Professor Nanmwa Voncir, Zonal Coordinator, Bauchi zone made the statement while briefing newsmen said, the demolition was arbitrary and meant to suffer ASUU members in spite of their contribution to nation development
Namwa stressed that the houses has been accommodating the ASUU since the advent of University of Benin and questioned the rationale behind such heinous demolition exercise targeted only against ASUU.
“I want to draw the attention of Nigerians to how political power has transformed a comrade to a tyrant for demolishing ASUU quarters belonging to University of Benin with the sitting occupants” said Nanmwa
According to the zonal coordinator, the demolition exercise is an effort in futility even when the matter is before court and to add salt to the injury, Oshiomole allocated the land to individuals
This nasty development, according Nanmwa is making him to ask when does private interest over run that of the public in Nigeria and to a man who claim to protect the working class as an activist.
In the same vein, ASUU maintained that the demolition has traumatized its members and thereby exposed them to danger, hatred with the resultant consequence on smooth academic activities in the universities
The Union therefore urge the Edo state governor to rebuild the properties and return same to the university without any further delay and appeal to President Buhari to call the governor to order.
