Nasarawa Lawmaker To Sponsor A Bill Prohibiting Abandoned Projects

Worried over the increasing rate of abandoned projects by successive administrations in Nasarawa state, a member of the state House of Assembly representing Doma North constituency, Honorable Mohammed Okpede has said that he will sponsor a bill to prohibit abandoned projects in the state, he hinted this in an interview with our reporter recently, He said the number of abandoned projects in the state is a cause for concern to him, taken into cognisance the financial commitments involved in such projects.

Muhammed Okpede (PDD) listed one of the abandoned projects that consumed chunk of tax-payers money but did not translate into reality to include the multi- billion naira Farin Ruwa Hydro Electric Power Project conceived by the former governor of the state, Abdullahi Adamu. He described the Farin Ruwa project where whooping billions of naira that was supposed to be channelled into other useful projects in the state was wasted and the project abandoned as a white elephant project.

Adding that the Assembly would not allow any repetition of project that do not have direct impact on the lives of the citizenry in the state, “Another bill ready to be sponsor was the bill for the “Establishment of Al-Majiri school system, He further said that the bill if passed into law would tremendously help towards addressing the increasing insurgency in the country.

Honorable Okpede frown on the way and manner toddlers were trained or breed up by clerics of questionable characters given back to the society bad elements, The member while going back memory lane to the string of successes recorded in the last four years buttressed that a lot has been achieved under him as a representative of the people of Doma North.

The Honourable member listed some of his gigantic effort to include, The construction of three (3) palaces in three communities, construction of bridge linking Tudun Alarama and Doma community, Others are the procurement of scanning machines worth N2m, In the area of education Okpede said a lot has been achieved as he maintained that students under his constituency benefited from the free NECO/WAEC and JAMB registration.

The lawmaker pleaded with electorates in his constituency especially students to remain calm; He attributed the predicament leading to the non-payment of NECO/WAEC and JAMB to successful indigents to the non-payment of their constituency project allowance.

Muhammed Okpede while commenting on the increasing spate of armed robbery along Lafia-Doma which is a source of concern for road users, opined that concerted strategizes has been adopted to wipe out the activities of bandits causing untold hardship to people of Doma , He however said he is working hand in hand with all the security agents , saying vigilante group were not left out of the fight.

Also speaking on the gully erosion that wreaked havoc to people within Dadin kowa axis, The member called on the Federal ministry of environment and Nasarawa state Government to extend their hands of fellowship to the wreaked community.
