The Bauchi State Governor, Muhammad Abubakar has approved the immediate retirement of all Permanent Secretaries that have served for eight years in that capacity.

A statement issued and signed by the Head of Civil Service, Mr. Abdon Dalla Gin on Tuesday he said the decision followed the approval of the domestication of the Federal Government’s Tenure policy in the state service, saying that the state government after discreet scrutiny of the Federal policy referred to has approved that the policy be adapted to meet the service peculiarities of the State Civil Service.

The statement added that among the policy to be implemented in the state include the immediate retirement of all Permanent Secretaries that served for eight years, while those who are about to attain the eight years in that capacity shall proceed on their terminal leave immediately.

Similarly, permanent Secretaries not affected by the eight years policy shall retire as and when they attain the eight years of satisfactory service, while Directors that attain ten years of satisfactory service in that capacity at a stretch, shall retire from the service.

‎The statement said the new policy implementation is without prejudice to the relevant provisions of the public Service Regulations which prescribe 60 years of age and 35 years of service for mandatory retirement.

However, the implementation shall be done in phases, with that of Permanent Secretaries being in phase one, while that of Directors comes under phase two as that of Directors has been deferred for now but would come into effect at a more auspicious time, in due course.
