12 Persons Die In A Boat Mishap In Nasarawa, 7 Corpses Recovered

The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Rt Hon Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi has confirmed the death of 12 People in the incident at Wayo community of Arikya electoral ward of Lafia Local Government, a border town of  Feferuwa community of Wamba Local Government of the State.

Balarabe gave the disclosure during an emergency sitting today (Thursday) The Assembly sent a condolence message to the Governor of the State Engineer Abdullahi Sule, The Chairman of Lafia Local Government, Hon Aminu Muazu Maifata and the immediate families of those who lost their lives in boat mishap.

Also Speaking on the incident, the Nasarawa State Chairman of Fisheries Cooperative Federation of Nigeria, Limited, Hon Bashir Mohammed Umar on behalf of the Association condole the bereaved families over the loss.

Umar called on the National Emergency Management Agency and the Nasarawa State Management Agency to as a matter of urgency do the needful by compensating the families of those that lost their lives in the incident.

The Sarkin Ruwan Assakio, Lafia East Development Area in a telephone interview said the deceased were 18 women who were on their way to harvest Melon when they met their Waterloo when the pedal of the boat broke mid-way during the journey of no return,

According to Sarkin Ruwan Assakio, during a telephone conversation 19 persons were in the boat, which comprised one male and 18 females, he said some corpses were recovered at Assakio River and Sabon Gidan Bakin Kogi.
