Zulum Dissolves Borno Cabinet Ahead Of General Elections

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum has dissolved the State Executive Council, a move widely seen as clearing the path for cabinet members interested in contesting elective offices in the next general elections.

The dissolution, which takes immediate effect, was announced in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani.

According to the statement, all commissioners have been directed to hand over the administration of their ministries to Permanent Secretaries on or before Friday, April three, two thousand and twenty-six.

Government sources indicated that the decision was taken to create an enabling environment for members of the cabinet who may wish to participate in the political process without conflicting with their official duties.

Although the statement did not specify how many commissioners intend to seek elective positions, the dissolution signals the beginning of political realignments in the state ahead of the forthcoming elections.

Zulum, while thanking members of the dissolved council, praised their dedication and commitment to public service and the development of the state.

He noted that their contributions have played a significant role in advancing governance and supporting recovery and development efforts in Borno State, which continues to rebuild after years of insurgency challenges.

The governor expressed appreciation for their service to the people and urged them to remain committed to the progress and stability of the state.

With the commissioners stepping aside, Permanent Secretaries will temporarily oversee the running of ministries pending further government decisions on the reconstitution of the cabinet.

Political observers say the development could reshape the political landscape in Borno State as potential aspirants begin to position themselves ahead of the next electoral cycle.
