You Are Continuously Dividing Plateau State Along Ethnic Lines, Plateau PDP Tells Lalong

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) , Plateau State has expressed disappointment with the way Governor Simon Lalong has continued to divide the state along ethnic lines.

The State PRO ,John Alkan stated this in his press statement made available to journalists in Jos on Tuesday.

The PDP said, “more than ten days after the genocide in Gashish, Gana Ropp, and Ngarr, the governor has not only failed but refused to visit the crime scenes. This is hardly the way for a leader to show compassion and quality care toward the people he has sworn to protect as his primary responsibility.

“It appears that Lalong finds it a lot more convenient to shuttle to Abuja to please the presidency than to drive 30 minutes to visit the grieving and survivors of the genocide and to assess the level of the mindless devastation in the communities.

The best the state has got from him so far was to visit some of the victims in the near by hospital. But for the remaining time he simply waits at the government house for governors and other dignitaries to pay him condolence visits.

“We advise Gov Lalong to emulate his Benue State counterpart Governor Samuel Ortom who stood and is still standing with his people at this moment of their pain.

We therefore call on the governor to stop blaming his perceived political enemies on his journey of incompetence and poor performance.

“Tragically, on July 1st, 2018, while the curfew was still on, attackers swooped on the people of Kantoma junction, leaving six (6) people dead with a church burned down. The killers left unchallenged.

PDP is also worried by the failure of the federal government to respond swiftly by providing relief materials to the people.

But, the shame of it all was the presidential spokesman Mallam Garba Shehu, who described this senseless genocide as farmer/ herdsmen clash, and even attributed the unprovoked murder of defenseless people in their homes to cattle being rustled. Shehu’s unfortunate statement is an insult both to the people of Plateau in particular and Nigerians as a whole.

It is indeed most unfortunate that this sentimental show of shame is coming from our own leaders who are supposed to protect us all, but have chosen to exhibit a deep sense of ill will towards the people of Plateau State and Nigeria even though they claim to be for all.
