The Yobe state government has ordered the immediate closure of all boarding secondary schools across the state following heightened security concerns across parts of northern Nigeria.
This was announced in a statement issued on Saturday, November 22, in Damaturu by Mamman Mohammed, director general of press and media affairs to governor Mai Mala Buni.
According to him, the decision followed a security meeting convened by the governor alongside heads of security agencies in the state.
Mohammed explained that the directive became necessary after a review of recent security breaches reported in schools in some parts of the country.
He added that governor Buni urged residents to continue praying for leaders, security personnel, and for lasting peace and improved security across Yobe State and Nigeria as a whole.
The statement also quoted Bukar Aji Bukar, permanent secretary of the ministry of basic and secondary education, as saying that the shutdown is temporary and will remain in place until the security situation improves.
He directed principals of the affected schools to ensure full compliance.
