World Malaria Day: Pregnant Women Advised To Take Proactive Measure Against Terminal Diseases

Nigerian pregnant women have been called upon to take extra care in protecting themselves and children against mosquitoes bites as they are vulnerable to malaria attack.

The Riyom local government council Chairperson  of Plateau state Mrs Josephine Piyo  who disclosed  at the celebration of World Malaria Day tagged “Investing in the Future and Defeating Malaria” where about 2,000 women and children got access to free malaria test, treatment and mosquitoes nets.

she advised nursing mothers to ensure the safety of their children through the protection mosquitoes bites which always affect women and children.

Piyo warned them to maintain personal hygiene by keeping their environment clean and also wash their hands after toilet to prevent infectious disease.

Addressing the community members, the Acting Director of CeGHaD, Mrs. Nancy Onu said the organization decided to mark the Day with people of the community based on recent report that “Ganawuri community in Riyom local government area has the highest rate of malaria sickness recorded in clinics and hospitals in Riyom.”It is on this note that we engage in the distribution of malaria drugs and mosquito net to pregnant women and children to mark the Day.

The gesture, offered by the Centre for Gospel Health and Development, CeGHaD, a health arm of the Anglican Diocese of Jos is to last in the Ganawuri community for a year

The programme will last for one year so that we can effectively give awareness and help the people overcome Malaria.”However, the Project Manager of CeGHaD, Mr. Dasu Yakubu noted that the project will involve creating awareness in the community, monitoring community members on the use of the mosquitoes nets and house to house sensitization of the people on healthy living habits.

A beneficiary, Mrs. Martha Danjuma commended the organization for their kind gesture and called on government at all levels to come to their aid by building a Primary Health Care Centre in the community as they travel many kilometers to get basic healthcare at Riyom, the headquarters of Riyom local council.
