Women Group Protests Non-Release Of Leah Sharibu, Demand  Release Of  Remaining  Chibok Girls

A ground under the aegis of  Christian Women on the Plateau for Peace and Security has on Wednesday protested and called for the release of Leah Sharibu including the Chibok girls kidnapped about 3 years ago.

 

General Secretary, CWEEN Joy Machunga , and Senior Pastor, JCMI (Mrs) Esther Ibanga said we are express our very deep concern over the fate of Leah Sharibu as Christian women on the Plateau we all gathered here today in unity and solidarity with Leah.

 

The women group raised alarm that over 50 communities in Barkin Ladi, Bassa, Bokkos, Riyom, Jos south Wase and Kanam Local Government Areas have been viciously attacked, sacked and dispossessed of their ancestral lands ,farms properties by heavily armed gunmen were women and children have been rendered destitute windows and orphan traumatized and internally displaced by violence .

 

“Our heartfelt anguish, sorrow, and concern over the continued captivity and the current plight of our daughter and sister a 14 years old Liya Sharibu one of the girls kidnapped by Boko Haram insurgents on the 19th February 2018 from Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi in Yobe state.

 

They condemn that she remains in the clutches of the ruthless terrorist group today for the single reason that she is a Christian and she refused to denounce her faith, we share in her identity and her calamity for it has become crystal clear that Christian in Nigeria especially the Northern parts are increasingly becoming endangered species.

 

According to the statement, as women and as Nigerian we are crying out today the county is under siege which section 14 (2)b of the 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria is only for a few groups.

 

They women lend their voice to support the Liya Sharibu who refused to denounce her faith, we the Christian women on the Plateau wish to remind the president and commander in chief of the Nigerians armed forces of his promise to Nigeria during his 2015 inauguration speech in which he belongs to nobody and everybody.

 

They appealed to the government to set up a task force comprising of credible government and civil society officials including women groups charged with the responsibility of resettling and rehabilitating IDP in the state.

 

Rt Hon Speaker Plateau State House of Assembly, PLHA, said the 8 assembly share in their moment of grieve especially in a time our own daughter needed us more.

 

He said Plateau state join the family women, state and federal government to condemn the kidnapping of females by the Boko Haram sects in north east Nigeria.

 

Azi disclosed that the case of Leah Sharibu is a clear testimony that many women are treated as endangered species by calling federal government to use any available means to release Leah in the hand of her captive.

 

Meanwhile, Member representing Mikang constituency, Hon Naanlong Daniel condemned the unwarranted killings and kidnapping of girls child by supporting the action of women who protest today.

 

He called on the federal republic of Nigeria to wake up to their responsibility of protecting the live and property of the citizens and unfortunate that three years down the line Chibok girls are still missing.

 

Daniel applauded the security for their dedication to duty by ensuring safety of lives,it is pertinent to acknowledge the irrefutable fact that Leah is not home with her parents today like the other Dapchi girls simply because of her faith not only that most of the victims of community land grabbing and other forms of violent attack are Christian.
