Credible sources have revealed to The Eagle Eagle Online why the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, sent a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ben Okolo, to the IGP Intelligence Response Team.
The deployment of Okolo to the IRT was contained in a statement on Wednesday.
Sources however said Okolo’s mandate was not to take over the IRT, headed by another DCP, Abba Kyari.
One of the sources told The Eagle Online: “DCP Ben Okolo was sent to IRT as head of the routine audit team for Auditing Arms, Exhibits, Operational Vehicles, Suspects, etc.
“Likewise many other Senior Officers were sent to other Police departments as heads of routine audit teams.
“Please ignore the fake news going round.
“IRT has not been disbanded as clearly shown in the IGP’s speech and other IGP signals that followed.
The Eagle Online further clarified in the IGP’s Office that IRT And Tactical Intelligence Unit are not Quasi Investigation Units as all due procedures were followed before its creation.
Sources said the IGP has directed that a signal be raise on Friday to clarify all the confusion going on, adding: “And we are expecting the signal today.
“Everybody should remain calm please.”
