Rivers State PDP Governorship Candidate, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the appointment of the outgoing governor of the state, Rotimi Amaechi as the campaign manager of the APC Presidential Candidate is a ploy by the opposition party to further drain the resources of the state to finance a failing Presidential project.
Addressing the people of Akpor Kingdom at Ozuoba on Friday, Barrister Wike stated that the APC has found in the outgoing Rivers State Governor, a man always ready to expend state resources on the altar of unfulfilled promises; hence they have always initiated more empty promises and schemes to deceive him into parting with extra state funds.
He said: “I heard on radio today that they have carved out the position of a campaign manager for our outgoing governor. This is another ploy by the leadership of the APC to further milk Rivers State dry. They promised him that he would be their vice presidential candidate. After bankrolling the campaigns of their presidential candidate, they abandoned him. Now they have initiated this position to use Rivers State funds to finance a project that will fail as it has always failed.
“Today, all the key roads in populated parts of Akpor kingdom and other parts of Rivers State have failed because the outgoing governor is using our money to finance a failed presidential project in the APC. Salaries are not paid and our economy is at an all-time low because our governor has allowed himself to be deceived by APC leaders who are in love with Rivers State funds.”
He said that outgoing Governor Amaechi refused to take up his challenge to vie for the senatorial election in their district because he knows he would have been defeated.
According to him: “Amechi’s acceptance of the position of campaign manager after they denied him the vice presidential candidate slot he paid for was simply to avoid coming home to contest the senatorial election where I promised him total defeat. He is completely unpopular here in Rivers State because he has no projects to show on ground for the huge resources that accrued to the state and the several loans he forced his boys in the state Assembly to approve for him in the Government House, dining room”.
He noted that all the propaganda being sponsored by Amaechi will fail as the Rivers State people have long resolved to massively vote for PDP.
He urged the Akpor people to stand firm and ensure that they vote President Goodluck Jonathan, himself and other PDP candidates in the forthcoming general elections, saying that Rivers State must be returned to her days of glory.
Earlier, prominent leaders of Akpor Kingdom took turns to announce the resolve of the 10 communities that make up the three wards to vote for Barrister Wike, President Jonathan and all PDP candidates in the 2015 general elections.
Former Attorney General of Rivers State and Federal Commissioner of Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission, Frank Owhor said that the Akpor Kingdom resolved to endorse Barrister Wike because of his track record of achievements.
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Eberechi Adele that the victory of Barrister Wike was already known to the people of the state including the outgoing governor. His position was corroborated by the House of Assembly member representing the area, Mr Michael Chinda, former State Assembly member, Tony Okeah and Chief Hanny Woko, President, Akpor Consultative Assembly.
Highpoint of the event was the administration of traditional blessing and endorsement of Barrister Wike by the Akpor Traditional Council led by HRH R.O. Okocha.
