We Never Bought Civil Service Slots, Sacked Civil Servants Tell Okowa

The Congress of Newly Employed Civil Servants in Delta State, Monday, insisted that they did not buy job slots rather they followed due process in getting employed into the State Civil Service.

The new workers who were laid off in the wake of the Governor  Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration in a statement issued by their chairman, Mr Regha Obus, secretary, Mr Agba Okeme and Public Relations Officer, Mr Henry Nwokolo said; “we are Deltans, we passed through all the stages.

“The commission advertised; we applied; we were shortlisted for interview, which we passed and appointment letters were given, which we graciously accepted with the intention of serving our state”.

“Most of us resigned from our previous jobs to accept the civil service offer. Those who bought their slots and the sellers should be exposed if the government is not corrupt and those of us who are Deltans should be allowed to go back to work”, they decried.

They said; “injecting fresh blood who are Deltans by origin into the Civil Service is not only necessary but a means of tackling unemployment in the state. We discovered that since 2010 till our recruitment in April 20th 2015 there had been vacuum in the service and this is a generational gap which is against the Civil Service rule. About 3,000 workers had retired while about 1,000 had died.

“We equally call on Dr. IfeanyiOkowa to please borrow a leaf from his counterpart, the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasiru Ahmed El-Rufai who within 30days of assumption of office has been able to articulate his various point of agenda for his people without a single suspension or sacking of workers in his State, without minding the huge financial debt left behind by his predecessor.

“We the Congress of Newly employed Civil Servants of Delta State hereby appeal to the governor to reverse his suspension decision on our employment and come out clear with his political agenda for the state”.
