Water Scarcity Hits Plateau South, Central As Residents Drink From Ponds And Streams

The people of Plateau state central and southern parts has  been hit by acute shortage of pipe borne water ,forcing residents to treks over 25 km in search of water from ponds and streams.

The community of leaders of the zones accused Sen Joshua Dariye and Sen. Jeremiah Timbut Useni for neglecting their constituent’s responsibility as they appeal to state and federal government to come to their rescue.

Our correspondent gathered that many people have disregarded basic hygienic standards in their quest for water.

Some of the communities mostly affected are those internally displaced areas who are planning to return but due to lack of drinking water, they have been forced to live in neighbourhoods such as Langtang and Wase town in the metropolis.

But residents of high brow areas of Jos south Local government council enjoyed uninterrupted flow of water, but various residents of Jenta Adamu , Mangoro resorted to buying water from hawkers to clean their home.

The State Water Board has announced that the road construction destroyed its pumping and treatment machines even as he assured the people that government had placed order for replacement to supply water to the affected areas with water tankers.

The people have charged the Commissioner of Water Resources, Engr Ja’afaru Wuyep to live up to the expectations of bringing his experience to stabilize water scarcity rocking the people of Plateau.

It will be recalled that Governor Simon Lalong recently gave assurance that the situation would soon be brought under control and;”very soon the burnt items will be replaced “.

Lalong explained that contract for the purchase of the equipment was meant for the supply of water to Plateau south and central, which had been worse hit by the scarcity.
