The Head of Nigeria National office of the West Africa Examination Council, Mr. Charles M. Eguridu has warned Principals of secondary schools in the country to desist from over charging students registering for West Africa Examination Council; Mr Charles read the riot acts to principals to shun any act capable of jeopardizing their reputation.
He attributed the daunting challenges of WAEC to the inactions of principals hiking registration fee, saying the actual amount of fee charged by the board is N11, 450 as against what was charged by head of schools.
“Principals should devise means of generating revenue instead of hiking registration fee; Mr. Charles also listed some of the negative perception in WAEC to include the presence of mediocre as serious encumbrances to the system.
The Head of Nigeria National office said examination malpractice is a general phenomena, Charles described the high rate of examination malpractices as an organized sharp practices among principals, Teachers’, parents and some bad eggs in WAEC, Warning merchants of examination practices to stay clear of the board.
He promised that WAEC would accord employment opportunity to indigents of Nasarawa state.
Mr. Charles commended the state Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura for operating an open door policy as well being supportive; calling on the state Government to redeem her pledged by donating a parcel of land for WAEC.
WAEC also pleaded with the state Government to assist the office with a 60KVA standby generator to enable them power their computers.
The state chairman of Association of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) Umar Ahmed Ubangari applauded the holistic effort of WAEC for accepting the offer of opening office in Nasarawa state, He stated that the establishment of office in Lafia would reduced the level of stressed involved travelling whole way to Jos office.
Stating that the office accommodation donated would elapse within the period of ten years.
The state Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura donated a bus to WAEC, The vehicle was to ease the problem of logistic faced by the board, The state commissioner of Education, Hajiya Ramatu Ajuji Abubakar who represented the Governor averred that other request by WAEC would be fulfilled in no distance time.
The state Governor expressed dismay over the endemic examination malpractices in the country ,Calling for the retrospection of the entire system, The occasion also witness a presentation of drama by secondary school students.
