Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma, issued clear directives to leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, at the ward (and local government) levels concerning the ongoing party congresses, 2026.
At the meeting, Governor Uzodimma instructed party stakeholders to prioritise consensus in the selection of executives at the ward and local government levels.
He, however, emphasised that in situations where consensus proves unattainable, the affected wards (or local government areas), should proceed with a democratic election process to determine their executives.
The Governor further directed that the results of the ward congresses be collated and submitted on or before 10.00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
By implication, the results of the Imo State APC Ward Executives are expected to be finalised the same day (tonight).
Similarly, the results of the Local Government Party Executives are scheduled to be concluded and made available on Thursday, February 19, 2026, while the State Congress results are expected to be ready by Saturday, February 20, 2026.
At the conclusion of the week’s congresses, the Imo State chapter of the APC is expected to have constituted a new set of party leaders across the ward, local government, and state levels, in line with the party’s constitutional provisions.
While addressing party members at the Old Exco Chamber of the Imo State Government House, Governor Uzodimma spoke during a critical stakeholders’ meeting convened ahead of the congresses in the state.
The congress exercise is aimed at electing new executive members who will steer the affairs of the party and strengthen its structure, particularly in preparation for the 2027 General Elections.
At the end of the meeting, Governor Uzodimma approved that the Ward Congresses be conducted at the respective ward levels, based on harmonisation, mutual understanding, and agreement among party leaders and critical stakeholders.
