A Professor of science Technology Education in Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH), Professor Vanduhe V. Apagu , Yola has  made an emergency call to all Nigerians to support Hon Binta Masi Garba to become the next Deputy senate president in the 8th senate.
The Professor who made the position known to journalists in Yola noted that the call was in line with the new mantra of change entrenched by the election of new leadership in the country adding that for Nigeria to get it right, merit should be given priority in the scheme of things.
According to him Marsi is eminently qualified to hold the position of the deputy senate president in view of her track record, life successes and the experiences she garnered over the years especially in the area of legislation in Nigeria.
The university Don said he has been following Garba’s performance over the years saying that, that is what informed his decision to make case for her.
He noted that another reason that informed his decision is her doggedness in politics and a strong grassroots mobilizer which was demonstrated in the last general elections where she defeated the incumbent Governor of the state, Barrister James Nggilari in her constituency to be Senator-elect.
Apagu noted that she was the only woman to be elected Federal House of Representatives from two states namely Kaduna and Adamawa in the contemporary history of Nigeria noting that the feat has made her a true Nigerian capable of uniting the diverse socio cultural differences that the country represent.
Professor Apagu enumerates other achievements recorded by Garba to include being in the National Assembly on three occasions, the first female to lead the state chapter political party where she helped the party won the presidential and gubernatorial elections, all the senatorial seats and a significant number of federal and house of assembly seats adding that the feat has made her to assume a unique place in Nigerian politics.
He said he join the coalition of Adamawa women and NGOs to advocate for Garba to be elected as the next Deputy Senate President in the 8th Assembly.
However a coalition of women under the aegis of Adamawa state coalition of women had also made case for the election of Hon. Binta Masi Garba as Deputy Senate President in the 8th National Assembly.
Speaking to journalists in Yola, the chairperson of the women coalition in the state, Mrs Helen Mathias Mamza said the group which consists of more than 20  major women groups noted that the election of a woman to man the position will make the 8th senate unique in many ways.
“In this era of change, the status quo must change so as to give women their right place in the assembly
“On this note, the Adamawa state coalition of women, is throwing its weight behind the Senator elect of Adamawa north senatorial district Hon. Binta Masi Garba for the post of deputy senate president in the 8th assembly,” Mamza said.
She noted that the group was inspired by the surfeit of achievements made by Binta Masi Garba including her passion for service to humanity, her effort at ensuring the upliptment of the women folk.
“Binta was the first Vice President of Common wealth parliamentarians under common wealth parliamentary association, the first female chairman of a major political party in Nigeria.
“She is the only politician to represent two different constituencies in two different states and the first parliamentarian to start poverty alleviation programme for women and youth which was later adopted as constituency projects in the National Assembly in 2003,” she said.

Mamza added that the emergence of Hon. Masi as deputy senate president if the position is zoned to the north east, will be a huge plus for the Nigerian women, and APC and a true testimony that the new government meant well for women.
