Indelible history was made by the entire of people of Ulakwo Autonomous Community in Owerri North LGA,Imo State, on Thursday, June 27th 2019,as the people collectively invited the Inspector General of Police,IGP,Mohammed Adamu,for the official foundation laying stone ceremony the Nigeria Police Station/Barracks Ulakwo Division.
Speaking through an address,the President General,Ulakwo Development Union,UDU,Prof.Anthony Okere,(Ohamadike 1 of Ulakwo),who was ably represented by the UDU Vice President,Chief Vincent Egemonu,expressively thanked God,the IGP,the Imo State Commissioner of Police,the Imo State Governor,Chief Emeka Ihedioha,and the entire of Ulakwo for the successful epoch making event of the ground breaking/foundation laying ceremony of Ulakwo Police Station/Barracks.
“We the people of Ulakwo are using this opportunity to call on the Gov.Ihedioha and the Govt.of Imo State to intervene and immediately start the reconstruction of Ulakwo Ekeoha Market because of its commercial viability.Also very important,is the reconstruction of arteries of roads connecting Ulakwo and neighboring communities including Rivers State through which Agricultural proceeds are brought to the market. A good example is the Ulakwo-Immerienwe Road that leads to Rivers State which is in a very deplorable condition. We also call on the IGP and the Imo CP to take over the completion of the Police. We trust that our demands and expectation shall not be in vain. We furthermore appealed to the IGP and CP to take over the completion of the Ulakwo Police Station/Barracks,and commence full Police Operation before the end of the year 2019″,the UDU PG submitted.
Also in his own words,the Traditional Ruler of Ulakwo,HRH Eze Sir.Raphael N.Oparaochaekwe,(Ebubedike II) of Ulakwo,expressed satisfaction with the successes so far recorded in the land of Ulakwo,and extolled the IGP for his approval of the station.
Eze Oparaochaekwe,however decried and lamented lack of government presence in his entire kingdom,but expressed optimism that with the establishnent of the Police Station,the area would in no distant time witness rapid infrastructural and economic development.
The Royal Father therefore assured cordial relationship between his kingdom and the Police Community,even as he disclosed that the presence of the station,if completed shall attract more commercial activities for economic boom in the area.
In his reaction,the Inspector General of Police,IGP Mohammed who was ably represented by the Imo State Police Command,CP Rabiu Ladodo,who spoke through the Area Commander Mbaitoli,ACP Ibrahim Simi Msheliza,appreciated the people of Ulakwo for their unity and innovation towards securing effective security of lives and properties by thinking of establishing a Police Station,even as he promised to assist them.
The IGP who responded to their request on the completion of the station,assured them that the Force Headquarters shall be fully involved in the fight against crime and noted that the Police are always poised and passionate to offer effective security lives and properties of the citizens.
Respected leaders,dignitaries and some illustrious sons and daughters of Ulakwo who were in attendance includes:” Nze Alphonsus Wasco Nnadi,the President of Ulakwo Elites Circle Club,Chief Felix Madukwe, the immediate past President General of UDU,Commander Bucknor Ekezie,among others members of the Community,including youths,women too numerous to mention.
