TYO National Competition Concludes with Exceptional Display of Oratory and Critical Thinking

The 2026 edition of the TYO National Competition has successfully concluded, showcasing an exceptional display of oratory excellence, critical thinking, and personal development among participating youths.

The four-day intensive boot camp commenced on Monday, April 27, with semifinal rounds held on April 29 and the grand finale on April 30, 2026. The closing event was marked by a highly emotional and celebratory atmosphere as the winner was announced to resounding applause from an enthusiastic audience.

Participants were rigorously assessed across key competencies, including reasoning, content development, speech structure, audibility, and audience engagement. The competition served as a powerful testament to the impact of intentional youth development, demonstrating what is possible when young minds are nurtured in a structured and purpose-driven environment.

TYO, a flagship initiative of the Peat Philips Foundation, is a communications platform dedicated to raising a new generation of confident leaders and effective communicators. The programme is rooted in the belief that true leadership is expressed not only through words but through consistent, value-driven action.

Throughout the boot camp, participants engaged in a multidimensional learning experience covering speech structure, clarity of intent, goal-setting, character development, reasoning, and impactful audience engagement. The programme also created an environment for peer-to-peer learning, enabling participants to exchange ideas and grow collectively.

Beyond the competition, TYO continues to serve as a transformative platform committed to developing young Nigerians into articulate ambassadors capable of representing their communities and the nation on global stages. The competition is part of a broader pipeline aimed at selecting and preparing Nigeria’s representative for the International Public Speaking Competition scheduled to hold in the United Kingdom in July 2026.

Looking ahead, preparations are already underway for the 2027 edition of the TYO Boot Camp. Organisers have expressed optimism for increased collaboration with sponsors and strategic partners to expand the programme’s reach and deepen its impact. Such support remains vital in advancing youth development efforts, not only within Nigeria but across the African continent.
