Two members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) Nasarawa state wing slumped at the premises of high court while protesting over the inability of the state government to pay them their two months salaries.

The chairman of JUSUN, Comrade Jimoh Musa said the downward review of workers salary should be forgotten by the governor, the union however gave a twenty four hours ultimatum to governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura to meet up to their demands or risk strike action.

“Our members are sick, dying of hunger and tired, still they have worked for sixty seven (67) days without salary, judiciary is treated with disdain under governor Al-Makura” saying the judiciary is better off during the reign of governor Aliyu Akwe Doma.

Comrade Jimoh Musa further maintained that the former governor implemented Consolidated Salary Structure of Judiciary Union which gave room for the upward review from N6, 000 to N12, 000, this is an effort worthy of emulation.

The chairman blamed the state governor of his administration’s inaction to increase the salary of JUSUN, saying the union has been waiting in vain for five solid years without salary increase in spite of the new minimum wage.

“5 years in vain he did not increase our salary instead he is thinking of reviewing our salary downward, he in addition said deduction of salary would not be acceptable, the union also insisted that their relativity should be added instead.

13400935_1133255863382859_141519053_nJUSUN described the decision of the governor to construct a complex for judiciary workers as a good enough but insisted the governor must pay them their two months’ salary in full.

“The adverts in Daily Trust of 6/6/2016 and The Nation of 7/6/2016 are not acceptable by the members of JUSUN, he described promises made by the governor as a nightmare, Comrade Jimoh chastised the governor for destroying courts in the state instead of building more.

The Chief Judge, Justice Suleiman Dikko commended JUSUN over their holistic approach to the ongoing peaceful protest saying the process for the payment of salaries is underway.

” I phoned the Accountant General by putting my phone on hands free, I again called and  I assure you that every worker will see his alert today”.

But the chairman resisted and called on his members to stay at home if government did not come to term with their demands.

In a related development, the chairman of Nigeria Medical Association, Nasarawa state wing, Dr Friday Omole has directed its members to stay at home until the state government comes to term with their demands which he said include the full implementation of Consolidated Medical Salary Structure to its members.

The chairman opined that the implementation of CONMESS became imperative with the hike in pump price of petrol and electricity tariff, Dr Omole called members of the association working with the Federal Medical Centre to join the strike, Dr.Friday Omole stated this while briefing newsmen at the weekend.

NMA chairman buttressed that the association is ready to negotiate with the state government if the need arises, as at press time, the gate of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia was shutdown.

Also members of the Joint Union of Nasarawa State Tertiary institutions worried over the hike in electricity tariff by 45%, increase in pump price of petroleum to N145 per litre and intermittent rising spate of foodstuff has urged the Nasarawa state Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura to as matter of utmost concern and in the interest of industrial harmony and peaceful co-existence to exclude tertiary institutions from the current attempt to review the salary downward.
