Tribute To A Rare Gem – Prof. A. M. Falaki, Condolences To His Family, The Ummah And His Alma Mata, The ABU, Zaria

The news of his gruesome murder in the name of Boko Haram suspect was virile in the media. He was an unassuming renowned Professor of Agronomy of high repute, very intelligent, humble, affable and above all God fearing. It is exactly a week now that the most unfortunate cowardly act betides the late eminent Professor.
After following all the events that ensued after his murder, JNI strongly believes that there is more than meets the eye. Why is Islamic dressing and or appearance now synonymous to being a Boko Haram suspect? Why are eminent Muslims always the targets, despite evidences beyond doubts that they are not Boko Haram suspects? It is no longer news that many prominent Muslim Scholars have either been quizzed by the DSSS, in some cases detained in the name of Boko Haram kingpins? A case in point is that of Sheikh Muhammad Yunus Nazeif of Kogi State University, still in DSSS custody. More worrisome is the fact that some Muslim scholars have been killed by unknown persons suspected to be Boko Haram members, yet nothing concretely seems to have been done to address this agony and impunity bedeviling the Muslim Ummah.
However, our solace lies in Allah the Most High, as His decree does not go in vain, “And think not that Allah is unmindful of the excesses of the unjust“. Therefore, our consolation is that no matter how long this impunity takes, truth will always prevail, as Allah is always on the side of the oppressed and taught us to patiently persevere in trying moments.
Indeed JNI is pained by the many unwanted destruction of lives and property, in the name of Boko Haram. Several communities in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe and Bauchi States are displaced. The most astonishing part of it is that several mosques were either attacked or destroyed, houses burnt or many communities devastated. Why must this be allowed to continue unabated for several months?
It is our du’a to Allah, the Most Beneficent and the Most Merciful to forgive the late Professor and grant him Jannatul Firdaus (the garden of bliss).
We implore his alma-mata and employer to follow-up the matter appropriately. Our condolence also goes to the immediate family of the deceased, members of the National Islamic Centre (NIC), the A.B.U. Muslim Community and the entire Muslims in Nigeria.
We nonetheless call all for calm, perseverance and to fervently remain prayerful. Allahummagh-fir Lahu Warhamhu (May Allah forgive him and have mercy on him).
Dr. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu
