The Inspector-General of Police IGP MD Abubakar, CFR, NPM, mni, psc has described the life jail term with hard labour on Mustapha Umar, the bomber of Thisday Newspaper House in Kaduna by an Abuja Federal High Court, Friday, as a remarkable victory against terrorism in Nigeria.
Reacting to the judgment, which stands out as a major conviction ever secured under the present Anti-Terrorism Laws 2011 as amended, the IGP hailed the court headed by Hon. Justice Adetokunbo Adeniyi Ademola for setting an uncommon precedence and for being dispassionate and commendably courageous in delivering the judgment which he noted will serve as a strong deterrent to such condemnable crime.
The obviously elated IGP commended the Police personnel that investigated the case for their high level of diligence, commitment, uncompromising professionalism and sacrifice displayed which led to the successful conclusion of the case. He equally paid tribute to the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation for the effective handling of the prosecution and the tremendous support and partnership with the Police.
While emphasizing that the conviction of Umar eloquently testifies to his Administration’s commitment to the fight against terrorism, the IGP asserts that by this feat, the Police are further emboldened to redouble their effort in ensuring that success is achieved.
