The Deplorable Condition Of Wase-Langtang Road, After Three Contract Awards For Its Rehabilitation,  Constituents Cry Out

Yakubu Busari

The People Wase and Langtang North Local Government Councils have raised alarm over the deplorable nature of the road linking the two LGAs as the contractor handling the ongoing project abandoned the site, as this has resulted in farmlands, crops being washed away by erosion.

They explained that their communities are predominantly peasant farmers that depend on the road to sell their farm produce after the harvest of the crops because of the proximity of the two LGAs.

Apart from the roads turning into a death trap, there is no accessible network of roads to connect Kadarko, Finu, Lamba -Jarmai, Lamba to Bashar, and Mavo to the company Zurak where there are mineral deposits that always sparks off internal conflicts.

The Wase Federal Constituents have been asking questions to know the whereabouts of the contractor handling a Federal Road linking Wase Local Government Council with Langtang North LGA of Plateau State.

The Wase bridge connecting to Langtang North LGA was destroyed by heavy downpour sometimes in 2007 where farmlands worth millions was washed away.

However, the contract for the rebuilding of the Malamu Wase-Langtang bridge was awarded in 2020, and this project funded by “SHIRU KAKEJI…” has left the people of Wase and Langtang North to suffer series of accidents and casualties during the rainy seasons especially around June, August period.

They observe with a sympathetic mind, how commuters, especially the people of Wase are neglected by their representative, Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon Idris Ahmed Maje Wase could not do something to remedy the plight of the two LGAs as the contractor handling the ongoing project abandoned the site.

Wase and Langtang people suffer a lot, day-in-day-out, as the road has become a death trap.

A constituent said;” we are fully informed and provided with every needed fact about both the 2020 and 2021 Federal Government Consolidated Capital Projects in Wase but, very unfortunate, from the look of things, all is not well.

One of spokesman Garba Adamu urged that Mr. Deputy Speaker should brief them on why these projects are taking too much time to start.
