Tension In Jos As 9 Family Members Among 15 Persons Killed On Thursday Night

At least  no fewer than  15 persons  have been  reportedly  killed on Thursday  night  by a group  of unknown  assailants, where 9 members of one family  met their  Waterloo in Bassa Local Government  Area of Plateau  state.

A group  of well-armed men during  a heavy  rainfalls  that  lasted  several  hours  took  advantage  to unleash  mayhem  on the  poor defenseless  civilian  at Majijin village.

However, there was violent protest within Rukuba Road/ Gada Biyu area suburbs of Jos North LGA  on Friday morning following the killing of fifteen  persons  in Capro, a community in Rukuba Road by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

Information available to our medium revealed that Gada Biyu Police Outpost was touched by the protesters while two tricycles popularly known as Keke NAPEP were burnt to ashes.

The aggrieved protesters torched Shops along Gada Biyu down to Rukuba Road were seen locked while parents and guardians withdrew their wards from schools.

The situation was almost getting out of hand until the re-enforcement of joint security operatives who adopted high professional method to take control of the situation.

The incident occurred at about 8PM yesterday when attackers suspected to be Fulani invaded the community and attacked three houses killing fourteen people of which nine were from one family.

The family incidentally happens that of one, Mr. Lucky, a mechanic who was among four youths killed in the same community about two months ago.

According to a source where the incident occurred was not far from a military checkpoint. Some of the protesters were expressing   the behaviour of the security operatives who on arrival at the scene of the scene began indiscriminate arrest of innocent mourners. All efforts to speak with the STF spokesman, major Umar on the matter proved abortive as his c number wasn’t going through.

Meanwhile, the Plateau state command has responded to Thursday attack at about 2205hrs, the Plateau State Police Command Control Room in Jos received a distress call to the effect that there were sporadic gunshots at Rukuba Road opposite Kowa Hotel, Jos.

Spokesman of the Command DSP Mathias Tyovex said after receiving the report they mobilised Patrol Teams immediately to the scene of crime.

The unknown gunmen who took advantage of the ongoing rain in the area to attack residents were forced to run from the scene by the combined superior gun fire of the Police and the Operation Safe Haven (STF).

Some people who reside close to the hills were rescued while some persons lost their lives as a result of the attack and some others sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jos and are currently receiving treatment.

The combined security are out to contain the situation in Jos. As such, members of the public are to remain calm and law abiding.

Meanwhile, patrol of the area is being intensified and investigation in the crime has commenced.
