Teenage Herder Arrested For Cutting Off Hand Of Famer In Bauchi

Police Command on Saturday arrested 15-year-old Adamu Ibrahim for cutting off the hand of a farmer with a machete in the Bauchi State.

This was contained in a crime bulletin made available to newsmen by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), S P Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the suspect was arrested by the operatives of the Area Command’s Metro.

“One Adamu Ibrahim ‘m’ of Jital village along Gombe road, Bauchi state has been arrested for trespass, mischief, and causing grievous hurt”, the crime bulletin said.

The press release further explains that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had on several occasions trespassed into the victim’s farmland with his cows while rearing.

SP Wakil said that the unfortunate incident followed a series of complaints to the suspect’s father by the victim for intrusion into his rice farmland by the suspect.

He said that “investigation revealed that on the 24th of August, 2023, the suspect who was armed with a stick and machete, mischievously invaded the victim’s farmland and destroyed the yet-to-be-ascertained value of crops”.

The State Police PPRO SP Wakil said that a disagreement had ensued, in the course of which the suspect stabbed the victim upon asking him to vacate his farmland, as a result, the victim’s left hand was chopped.

“The suspect drew his machete and chopped off the left hand of the victim”, SP Wakil submitted.

He said, on receiving the report, the Area Commander, Metropolitan swung into action and activated more preventive measures to avert circumstances that may result in a herder-farmer clash in the area.

Adding that the suspect was arrested while the victim was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa-Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBU-TH) Bauchi for medical treatment.

He further said that the victim is responding to treatment, and pointed out that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Auwal Musa Mohammed warned herders to steer clear from intrusion into farmlands in the state.

The state police public relations officer (PPRO) Wakil said that the commissioner of police (CP) Auwal Musa Mohammed gave a directive that the suspect be charged to court upon completion of the discreet investigation.
