Taraba Gets First Female Finance Commissioner

Sarah Enoch was on Tuesday sworn in as the first female Commissioner of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, by Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba state.

Mrs Enoch who is the first female to hold that position since the state was created in 1991 was sworn in alongside 5 other female and 17 male commissioners, making a total number of 22 cabinet members.

The governor on Monday created the Ministry of Waste Management and Innovation and appointed Shonzen Bernard, a Msc holder in Sociology from Yorro local government as the new commissioner.

Enoch, a PHD holder in finance and accounting, is a graduate of the University of Calabar. She hails from Wukari local government area.

Other female members of the newly cabinet include, Augustina Godwin a PHD holder in education is the new Commissioner of Education, Naomi Agbu, PHD energy and economy was posted to the newly created Ministry of Energy and Economy Development and Aishatu Barde, Bsc geology was sworn in as Commissioner Environment and Climate change.

Others are Zainabu Usman, Msc business and commercial law is the Commissioner Information and Re-orientation, Philister Musa, Phd education is to preside over Ministry of Social Justice and Re-integration and Mary Sinjen, a graduate of accounting was posted to serve in the Women Affairs and Child Development Ministry.

In the men category, Nicolas Oliver PhD agriculture engineering was posted to the Ministry of Agriculture Food and Security, George Peter, Bsc political science, Commerce, Trade and Industry, Joseph Nagombe, Masters in conflict and security studies to the Ministry of Heritage and Eco-tourism.

Yakubu Maikasuwa a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, (SAN) is the new commissioner Ministry of Justice, Gideon Nonso, Bsc Economics is to head the Ministry of Digital Economy and Innovation, while Bodia Buma, a medical doctor was posted to the Ministry of Health.

Habu Philip, a HND holder in Laboratory Science was posted to the Ministry of Technology, Cooperative and Poverty Alleviation, Julius Peter, a masters degree holder in education management and planning is  assigned to the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development.

Usman Abdullahi Bsc Chemistry is the Commissioner of Science and Technology, Saviour Noku Msc Peace Study and Conflict Resolution was posted to the Ministry of Special Duties and Social Services, Yakubu Yakubu a master  degree holder in business administration is the commissioner Ministry of Transportation Development.

David Ishaya Bsc education, Ministry of Water Management and Aquatic Affairs, Noseh Luka, Msc development studies, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure Development and Joseph Joshua, Bsc information technology is to preside over the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development.

The governor said “We understand the importance of providing opportunities for the vibrant and dynamic youth population and ensuring that the voices of our women are heard and respected.

“The youth of our state have consistently demonstrated enthusiasm, talents and commitment to the development of the state.

“Similarly our women have always been the backbone of our society playing pivotal roles in many spheres of life. There resilience, intelligence and compassion are qualities that cannot be overlook we have identified accomplished women who have excel in various fields and we believe their valuable experiences will shape our policies

“Our appointment is a testament to our commitment to gender equality and empowerment of women in the state.” He said.

Kefas said all the appointees have shown exceptional dedication in their various fields and have proven their leadership ability, “l am confident they will bring their experiences and unique insight to the table significantly to the progress and development of this state.” He said.
