Strong Laws, Enforcement Activities Necessary For Successful Anti-Graft War – Lamorde

The Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde has identified strong legislation, enforcement and adjudication as necessary ingredients for the success of the war against financial crimes and corruption in the country.

Lamorde made the observation on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 during a meeting with a delegation of civil society organisations in his office at theCommission’s headquarters, Abuja.

He advocated closer collaboration between the Commission and the Civil Societies, which he stressed was needed for a more robust and successful war against economic crimes and corruption.

According to him “collaboration with civil society organisations will help the Commission in achieving her objectives, and without the support and contribution of your organisations, EFCC would never be able to achieve much.”

He disclosed that the EFCC has through the EFCC /NYSC lecture series on Anti- corruption at various NYSC orientation camps, Interfaith Committees, Zero tolerance Clubs in tertiary institutions and Integrity Clubs in secondary schools reached out to Nigerians to own and get involved in the fight against corruption in the country.

Earlier in his remark, the Chairman of West African Non-Governmental Organisation Network (WANGONET) Mr. Tunji Lardner thanked the EFCC management for the opportunity given to them to contribute their quota in the fight against corruption and pleaded with the EFCC boss to implement the recommendations of the meeting.

Other groups represented at the meeting include Freedom of Information Advocate Initiate, Africa Centre for Leadership for Human Rights, Zero- Corruption Coalition, among others.
