It was indeed a happy moment on Tuesday, 8th of March 2022, when the Imo State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Hon. Dan Chike Ogu, warmly received the State’s Cricket Team as they returned from Abuja.
They won the silver trophies and silver medals at the just concluded National Cricket Championship 2022 in the male and female categories.
The Commissioner praised the teams (Government Secondary School Owerri and Assumpta Girls Model Secondary School) that are the best in the southeastern region of Nigeria for their doggedness and consistency in putting Imo state on the global map as a couple of the cricketers are billed to go for national camping ahead of international engagements.
He reiterated that the sports-friendly Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma is investing in the revival and further development of the game of cricket. He also stated that “we will upgrade cricket facilities in the state and bring in equipment as well as send coaches, officials, and players on refresher courses as well as aim to host championships at various cadres.

The Chairman of Imo State Cricket Association, Chief in his response thanked Senator Hope Uzodimma for his massive support through the Sports Commissioner and promised that in their subsequent outings they will bring back gold trophies to the delight of Imolites.
He appealed that emphasis be laid on the construction of standard facilities for training and competitions.
The highlight of the visit was the presentation of trophies and medals to the Sports Commissioner who also doled out cash gifts to the team.
