Aminu-Waziri-Tambuwal-3As the race for the position of the Speaker of the House of Representatives hots up, federal lawmakers from Kano State have condemned the attack on Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal over his reported backing of the Chairman, House Services and Welfare Committee, Yakubu Dogara, as speaker in the in-coming 8th Assembly.

Speaking to journalists, a returning member of the House, Aliyu Sani Madaki (Kano/APC) accused Tambuwal of backing Dogara for “selfish interests”. Madaki, a vocal supporter of Minority Leader, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila’s bid to be speaker, accused Tambuwal of “instigating” House members to snub the yet-to-be announced All Progressive Congress (APC) zoning formula if it does not favour his candidate.

In a scathing reaction, three Kano House members, Hons. Aminu Suleiman Goro, Nasiru Baballe Ila and Mustapha Bala Dawaki accused Madaki of engaging in “playing to the gallery through parliamentary thuggery”.

“We want to use this opportunity to draw the attention of all the progressive members of the House to disregard the current utterances by Ali Madaki as only self-serving, indecent, uncivilized and just an attempt to register his presence.”
