With a view to creating awareness on free gender-based violence against women and girl child abuses in the state, the society for Family Health (SFH) has joined other NGOs on a street crusade campaign in the Bauchi metropolis.
The chief of party Society for Family Health (SFH) Abdul-Salman Salihu, while addressing journalists, said that the 16th day of gender activism is an international day being recognized every year in the world to celebrate and conduct activities towards creating awareness and enlighten the most vulnerable and victims on gender-based violence-related issues.
Added that the program is for five years being sponsored by the USAID project that deals with the key into population areas of HIV and Aids, prevention and treatment to the most vulnerable and fewer privileged groups in the society.
Apart from that, the SFH is also rendering support free medical treatment on HIV/Aids, advocates against forceful and unwanted marriages, right to education, and all forms of abuses and discriminations against women and girls.
According to him, said that the SFH was able to break viral loads of HIV separations to very minimal levels amongst the vulnerable groups.
The chief of the party further disclosed that the projects are currently going on in five states of the federation comprising; Bauchi, Adamawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara respectively.
Also speaking, the strategic information advisor SFH, Mr. Issac Omale said the streets walking was aimed at calling the attention of the people to stand up on their rights particularly, women and girls against all forms of injustice, rape, abuses, and discrimination by the community.
He, however, advised family and friends to speak out against gender-based violence against women, no matter how highly placed the position the person is occupying, so as to save the victims.
On her part, Mrs. Zainab Polmi, SharpT03 Chemonics project coordinator, said the awareness campaign is to help in educating, enlightening, and sensitizing the people on the right of women and children, with a view to treating them equal with their male counterparts in the society.
Universal Reporters also reports that during the streets walking campaign the groups are saying “Mata Iyayenmune, simply means “Women are our Mother, do not abuse, discriminate, and to give them equal rights and opportunities”, the groups chanting.
