George-AkumeThe President Middle Belt Youth Assembly, Hon Solomon Yakubu Ndam has drummed support for the election of Sen. George Akume for position of senate President in the 8th Assembly. He made the appealed to all senators-elect in the eighth Assembly to support Senate Minority Leader, Senator George Akume, to emerge as Senate President in the forthcoming 8th assembly.

Yakubu Ndam the President of the group, made the appeal while addressing newsmen yesterday in Jos the Plateau state capital.

He insisted that Akume gave the opposition a voice in the seventh Assembly, adding that it was only natural that he emerged as Senate President.

In his words “Senator Akume is very effective as minority Leader in the Senate. Therefore, it is natural that the man, who did well with little responsibility, should be given higher responsibility,” he said.

Besides, Ndam stressed that Senator Akume had proved to be a leader of people and resources, having single-handedly built the opposition in Benue State, a hitherto PDP- controlled state. He said Akume had over the years, proved to be concerned with the development of people and society, hence, his towering political profile.

“Senator Akume remains one of the few, who served as governor for eight years and has not been linked with any allegation of corruption and other moral impediments. Instead, he has been a dependable bridge builder and a highly detribalised Nigerian.

“As governor, it is on record that Akume showed commitment to the education sector and Provided dividends of democracy to the People of Benue as governor and deserves to be the President in order to continue to provide the needed leadership qualities to citizens of the country. , he added.

He noted that Akume have been a grassroots mobilizers and he has empowered many youth in the middle belt through selfless program
