Senate Confirms Olukoyede As EFCC Secretary

The Senate on Wednesday, November 28, confirmed the appointment of Olanipekun Olukoyede as Secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

President Muhammadu Buhari, in a letter dated September 10, 2018, nominated Olukoyede, a reknowned lawyer who was until today, the Chief of Staff to the chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, as the Secretary of the Commission.

It could be recalled that the unresolved disagreement among the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption had on Tuesday halted the confirmation of Olukoyede.

Misau had said there are so many petitions against the nominee, which are yet to be addressed.

He claimed that the Chairman of the Committee brought the report to him on Tuesday morning for him to sign, which he declined.

But Saraki ignored the request of the two members of the Committee and confirmed the appointment of Olukoyede as Secretary of anti-corruption agency.

Olukoyede, an indigene of Ekiti State, who is the current Chief of Staff to the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, was nominated as Secretary to the Commission in a letter by President Buhari, dated September 10, 2018, and addressed to Saraki.

After reading the letter during plenary on October 3, 2018, the request was referred to the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes to screen the nominee and report back to the Chamber for confirmation or otherwise.
