Sen. Dariye Condemns The Zike Massacre Of Innocent Lives In Bassa LGA  ,”Seeks End To Killings “

Yakubu Busari

The Former Plateau State Governor, Senator Dr. Joshua Chibi Dariye, has condemned Sunday night attack in Zike, Kimakpa communities in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area, describing it as unwarranted, barbaric and inhumane by seeking an end to  Plateau killings .

In a statement, Senator Dariye who lamented that the incident was coming barely two weeks after the killing of over 60 persons in some six communities in Bokkos LGA, was a wake-up call for security agencies to redouble their efforts in containing the rampaging terrorists.

He called on government at all levels to brace up for the challenges posed by the marauding herders who were bent on annexing the land which the people had inherited from their forefathers.

” It’s high time government wore its thinking cap to come out with proactive measures to contain these terrorists whose intent is to grab the land at all costs”.

” The major reason for these senseless killings of our armless and defenceless people, coming at this point in time when the rains are here, is to instill fear in the people by scaring them away from their farms thereby preventing them from practising their predominant occupation”.

The former governor appealed to the State Government to empower Operation Rainbow and other non-conventional security outfits to curtail the increasing attacks of vulnerable communities, pending the completion of the legal framework for the establishment of State Police before the National Assembly.

Senator Dariye implored security agencies to invest in technology-driven solutions, especially drones in unmasking the identity of the terrorists who had been the source of pains and anguish to the people for over two decades now.

He called for the deployment of mobile Police to vulnerable communities across the state, regretting that the military mostly arrived at scenes of attacks after the damage had been done to evacuate corpses and the injured without the desired results.

While appealing to spirited individuals and corporate organisations to come to the aid of the people, Senator Dariye commiserated with the families who lost their loved ones and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

The former Governor, who commended the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun for his swift response in deploying their men to the state to complement ongoing efforts, urged him to ensure the prosecution of all those arrested lamenting that not doing so in the past, had emboldened the terrorists to continue launching more devastating attacks on innocent citizens.
