Sen. Binani Has Questions To Answer Over Allegations Raised Against Her Person And Character—Adamawa SDP Chairman

The Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Adamawa State, Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf, has said that the Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state Senator A’ishatu Ahmed Binani has questions to answer over serious allegations raised against her person and character, both as a student and a businesswoman by Sahara Reporters and other online News platforms as well as other News Blogs.

The SDP State Chairman stated this in a statement sent to this medium, where he said that it is important that after the APC gubernatorial candidate, Sen. A’ishatu Ahmed Binani, finishes her campaign flag-off on Monday, the next important step for her is to come forward and explain to the Adamawa electorate the serious allegations raised against her person and character both as a student and as a businesswoman by the Sahara Reporters Newsline currently on the internet.

“From the report of the Online Newspaper, definitely Sen. Binani who’s aspiring to lead the state as governor has questions to answer,” Yusuf said.

“The paper raised two main issues against her. First, that she was expelled from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria on the ground that she gained a “backhand admission” into the university with fake credentials. The second issue relates to criminal enrichment to the tune of N50b (fifty billion naira) in UBEC when her husband was then the commission’s Executive Secretary.

“These issues raised by Sahara Reporters and other Newsblogs are so serious that they cannot just be glossed over and swept under the carpet without being explained to the electorate whose trust she craves to earn if she must be elected governor. Because leaders hold not just the lives of the people they govern, but even determine the destiny of society, it is critical that people trust those to lead them. And trust is earned through character.

Yusuf stated further; “The allegations leveled against the APC gubernatorial candidate certainly impinge on her character, and she owes the electorate the duty to explain herself.”

“But as it is, silence is not golden as the majority of Adamawa people will not be willing to give the state’s mantle of power to a person of questionable character. As we move towards changing the poor leadership failings in the state, integrity, character, virtue, and competence, and nothing else, must be central in determining who to elect in the forthcoming elections,” he said.
