Tasks INEC To Immediately Recognise Senator Uchendu As Directed By The Tribunal

The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly condemned the continued stay of Mr. George Thompson Sekibo in the Senate, wondering what he is still doing there two weeks after he was sacked as the Senator representing Rivers East Senatorial District by the Election Tribunal.

The party in a statement issued and signed by the State Chairman, Chief (Dr.) Davies Ibiamu Ikanya on Friday in Port Harcourt said: “We were appalled to see Sekibo in the hallowed chambers of the Senate few days ago as beamed by a popular TV station. We were shocked, knowing very well that the Rivers State Election Petition Tribunal had asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate of recognition issued in error to this man who has by his actions and utterances brought nothing but shame to the people of Rivers State in his wasted years in the Senate. The Tribunal, in keeping with the wishes of the electorate, unequivocally directed that the authentic Senator, Andrew Uchendu, be recognised and issued with a certificate of recognition as the actual winner of the rerun election in Rivers East. So what is this fading politician and ingrate still doing in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria?”

Rivers APC pleaded with INEC to, as a matter of urgency, issue the certificate of recognition to Senator Andrew Uchendu to enable him perform the duties for which he was overwhelmingly elected by the people of Rivers East Senatorial District. “INEC should act fast to save Nigerians the shame of ever seeing this man in the Senate again as we have decided to dump him in the dustbin of history where he rightly belongs,” Rivers APC said.

To sacked Rivers Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers who are wrongly castigating the judiciary for taking the bold step of restoring APC’s stolen mandate, Rivers APC reminded them that no amount of cajoling or intimation will reverse the mandate of the electorate to Andrew Uchendu to represent them in the Senate.
