A notable community leader in Nkwerre Imo State (name withheld) has condemned the recent media attack by one Mr. Sam Ahanonu on the former minister of Interior Capt Emmanuel Ihenacho.
This remark was made during a press briefing which the community leader granted to some journalists who went to Nkwerre recently to monitor the ongoing registration of voters in the area.
The leader who is also a cabinet member of the traditional ruling council of the area remarked that Mr. Ahanonu is known swindler whom he said is in the habit of going about collecting money to blackmail people.
Speaking, the community leader who also debunked the insinuation that Mr. Ahanonu is a traditional title holder in the area had this to say:
‘Mr. Ahanonu is from Umunyem Nkwerre. He claims to be an Nze and chief. We are not aware where he got those titles. A person like him who is of questionable character cannot be a member of our ruling cabinet in Nkwerre. Some time in the past, he was slammed by the Nigerian Drug Law Agency (NDLEA) for drug related offences. In the year 2010, he had another case with the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) on fraud and his wife was detained because of him. He had also had issues with NAFDAC where he allegedly openly exchanged fire with security personnel of the agency. What he does is to go about collecting money from politicians and highly placed individuals in the society to blackmail whoever that he is paid for to blackmail. He is an embarrassment to our people.
When asked of Mr. Ahanonu’s recent offensive allegations against Capt Ihenacho a governorship aspirant in Imo State, the Nkwerre-born leader said that the former minister should ignore Mr. Ahanonu.
‘It is only you people who do not know Sam Ahanonu. He is our son. We know him very well. We do not take him seriously here. He is a charlatan and a certified con artist. The press should be very careful when he brings materials for them to publish. He only wants money from Capt Ihenacho and that is all. He should be completely ignored…’, he summed up.
For some time now, some Owerri circulating newspapers have been publishing some offensive allegations sponsored by Sam Ahanonu on Capt Ihenacho.
Incidentally, the police have invited Mr. Ahanonu severally to come and answer questions on his allegations against the APGA gubernatorial aspirant but Mr. Ahanonu has blatantly refused to honour the invitation.

When contacted, the Police Public Relation Officer for the Imo State Police Command Mr. Andrew Enwerem, confirmed the invitation and said that the police was making everything possible to bring Mr. Ahanonu to answer allegations of criminal libel levelled against him by the former minister.
