Sale Of Nasarawa Assets: Nasarawa State House Of Assembly And The Parable Of A Sinking Ship

Greetings to all comrades and fellow compatriots of Nasarawa State, it is high time that we stop continuing to pretend that all is well, even when we are crying and smiling, If you see something, say something to save Nasarawa of our dream from collapsing.

I was foisted again to comment over the express authority accorded governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura to dispose of all our inheritance

Going through the letter transmitted to the All Progressives Congress controlled Assembly, I’m in the deep sea if really this is the change we want, change is all about involving the constituents in decision making especially on serious business.

I will start by responding to some of the reasons to dispose those buildings which in the letter said were dilapidated and in deplorable conditions, I disagreed with that reason because the office of Nigerian Newsday at plot 43, Chingola street off Yaounde road, Wuse zone 6, Abuja is in good shape, the building of National Theatre at Iganmu, Lagos is older than Benue-Plateau but no attempt to dispose the building and if so arise it must pass through due process which will include public hearing or debate.

Coming back to Lafia, the state capital it was just of recent that Al-Makura renovated office of Pension Bureau opposite the Specialist Hospital, Lafia.

Another reason is to dispose of its properties to complete one Nasarawa House, This out of the issue.

I will again suggest that the N6.1 billion airport should be stopped and the money used to complete Nasarawa House, The question to ask is how viable is the project, and why was Nasarawa State Government insisting on completing this white elephant project as the state is battling to pay workers salary.

We should have in the back of our mind that there is Judgement on earth as well in heaven because we shall be hold accountable for our actions and inaction.

Honorable speaker sir, if the buildings are on the pangs of collapsing, did plots of land collapse ?.

Then why the sales of the 7.02 hectares of land? what about the shopping plaza site at Abacha road, Karu measuring 1,300M2, Keffi site and services, Kuchikau site and service scheme, Rogo Processing Industry, Shabu.

I categorically disagreed with this position because the Assembly supposed to set up a committee employed the service of assets valuers and report back if not the present Assembly remains the worst in the history of lawmaking in Nasarawa State from 1999 to date.

The properties to be disposed are as follows

31.Lafia Plaza (frontage of state low cost Estate) .

If the governor succeeded in selling those bunches of properties then Nasarawa presence is no longer in Lagos, Kaduna and amongst others.

The state government should be ready to tell the people of Nasarawa State the value of all the assets including plots of land.

And what ways would the state government channel the money to ?.to sell as many viable properties to complete Nasarawa House, Is unacceptable to the younger generation of our time.

The state government should be ready to brief the people on the remaining assets of NIPDC, present handover note by the immediate past General Manager of the company as well hired properties valuers to do so.

And for the state lawmakers they should set up a vibrant and a committed committee with estate and property values with selected Journalists to go to Lagos, Jos,Kaduna,Abuja and Lafia to ascertain the real value of the properties.

The APC controlled Assembly should know that the current lawmakers would one day be out of the Assembly.

Lawmaking should be about fair and equal representation of the masses.

I rest my case by commending the likes of Hon.Orogu, Hon.Baba Ibaku, Hon. Lagi whose record in the NSHA remains indelible in the sands of Nasarawa state.

God bless Nasarawa State of our dream.

Rabiu Dogara Omaku Writes from Doma Local Government Of Nasarawa State.
