The Rivers state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as waste of public funds, the plan by the Grassroots Development Initiatives (GDI) to mobilise the state’s indigenes in the Diaspora for reelection of governor Nyesom Wike.

A statement by the SSA Media and Public Affairs Consultant to the State Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Eze Chukwuemeka Eze said the mobilisation was a wild goose chase.

“It is a move to plunder the hard scarce public funds of Rivers State by embarking upon a wild goose chase of mobilising the indigenes of Rivers State abroad to re-elect an unelectable Chief Nyesom Wike, who have caused untold hardship on citizens, and havoc and embarrassment to the image of Rivers State since he assumed office as an emergency Governor of Rivers State,” it read.

The APC alleged GDI was the same group that was used in 2014 to perpetuate insecurity in Rivers State.

“It was used to molest some Northern Governors that came to Rivers State in 2014 to sympathise with the then Governor of Rivers State, Amaechi over his ordeals in the hands of Wike. It was used to harass, beat up, molest and dislodge over 11 key Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members that wanted to contest the 2015 governorship election under the PDP platform at the party’s National Secretariat at Abuja in 2014,” the APC further alleged.

It added that the GDI’s Convener of meeting of Nigerians in South Africa, Pastor Egba B. Egba was wrong to have stated that Wike brought relief to students studying abroad when, according to the Party, “the same students were stranded after stopping the scholarship scheme meant for their studies abroad.”

The statement further said nobody would take the group serious in its trying to push for the re-election of Wike in 2019.
