The near impeachment of the Speaker of the Kaduna State Assembly, Alh Mu’azu Usman Gangara, by some lawmakers of the state assembly was fueled by a buildup of friction and rusty relationship between the speaker and the state governor, Muktar Yero, LEGISREPORTS can authoritatively report.
Findings revealed that the impeachment move was instigated by a conspiracy involving the Vice President, Namadi Sambo alongside Governor Yero to wrestle and destabilize the party’s structure on ground in Giwa local government ahead of the 2014 gubernatorial elections. It was learnt that the Speaker and former Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Lawal Yakawada’s loyalists exert influential control of the party structure in Giwa local government, where the present SSG, Alhaji Ishaq Danmahawayi also hails from.
The implication, it was gathered by extension, had the loyalty of the local government executives in doubt, all of whom had secretly resolved to frustrate and thwart Yero’s ambition during the upcoming gubernatorial primaries. In another vein, the conspiracy to remove the speaker it was further learnt, was due to ripples of intense disaffection felt by the executive towards the state assembly following an indictment of the executive on the disbursement of SURE-P funds last May after conducting an investigation that exposed the embezzlement of N560 million accrued to Kaduna State government.
LEGISREPORTS was reliably informed by a source who craved anonymity within the executive that the battle to ensure the speaker’s removal is still raging on as some lawmakers who have sold their loyalty to Governor Yero are hell bent towards ensuring he is replaced by a pro-Yero Speaker. The source said: “for the fact that the speaker escaped narrowly the impeachment move is not the end of the fight against him. As we speak, Yero and his henchmen some of who are those lawmakers have sworn to replace Gangara.
