Retired Police Officers Protest In Kaduna Over Pension Scheme

Retired Police officers, on Monday, protested in Kaduna calling on the Federal government to remove them ‎from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

The protesters went to the state command headquarters to hand over their letter to be forwarded to the Inspector General of Police Baba Alkali.

The retired cops were carrying placards with inscription ‘Fight corruption by removing us from police PenCom,’ ‘NASS respect old age exit police from CPS,’ among others.

Fielding questions from the media shortly after handing over the letter, chairman Retired Police Officers’ Kaduna State Chapter, Barrister John Madaki, said they were at the command to express their grievances against the pension scheme.

He said the monthly take home by retired police officers under the CPS is a transport allowance to their grave yard.

 

“Imagine how a ‎retired CSP copes with N47,511.00 as a monthly pension after serving 35 years, while others below the rank of CSP and inspector receive N12,000 to N18,000 per month,” he said.

 

He said there is the need to regularise the abnormality as there is tendency of the present condition of retired officers to discourage other young Nigerians intending to join the force.

 

Madaki said the force is always in the forefront with the military in tackling security challenges like Boko Haram and Niger Delta crisis. He said many police officers paid the supreme price and yet they are not treated well.

 

He appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Assembly to do what it takes by removing the retired police officers from the pension scheme and placing them with their sister agencies like the military and DSS.

 

The state Police Commissioner Mudassiru Abdullahi was not present to receive them as he was said to be in a meeting.
